The incident began on Friday, Jan. 26 around 2 a.m., when an alert resident in Rye in the area of Martin Road noticed an unknown man in her driveway and called the police.
According to the Rye Police Department, the resident was able to give authorities an "excellent" description of the suspect and their vehicle, and arriving officers soon found a white SUV fleeing from the area.
Police then followed the SUV until it entered Fairfield County, causing authorities to end the chase.
Luckily, almost all of the vehicles that the suspect tried entering were locked, police said.
The department also warned residents to lock their cars, secure their valuables, and bring the keys out of the vehicle. The warning comes with good reason as well, as there have been 99 cars stolen in Rye since 2020, the department said.
"Help us keep criminals out of our neighborhoods by securing your cars," the department wrote on social media.
